About me, in my words
I was born and raised in a beautiful little island called Sri Lanka, located south of India. In 2009 I moved to a small town in Kansas to go to college. I met my husband here in the global campus building in Fayetteville at the INBRE conference 5 years ago. We fell in love with the hills around here, so we moved to Fayetteville soon after. I started working for Student Technology Services in 2013 answering calls at the University IT Services helpdesk providing solutions to a wide range of issues from password resets to network problems and providing assistance remotely with various software supported by the university. I graduated with a degree in Physics, concentration in astrophysics. I have analyzed data for Chandra and Fermi space telescopes. I love playing my violin, sitar, piano or flute when I have free time and my best and most loyal friends are my husband and my dogs Charlie, Gnar and Star.
My away-from-work passion is...
My hobby farm. I manage a flock of 30 chickens, 13 ducks, 1 turkey and 1 guinea. Our garden is about an acre, and we have all kinds of vegetables growing there, including Sri Lankan ones! In the summer, we don't have to buy fresh vegetables from the market at all, we simply walk out to the garden and pick what we want.
The best part about working at the U of A is...
Meeting our amazing faculty members, getting to know their research interests and the seeing the beautiful hills of Arkansas from campus.
My favorite book is...
Angels and Demons, Dan Brown. I like all of his books. In my eyes, he's a very good at bringing his stories to life, hence a sign of a great author.
