About me, in my words
I have always had something to do with education. Even as a student I tutored other students in Math and English. After graduating college, I taught English as a second language and later English Translation/Interpretation to college students. Then I moved to Arkansas and earned my second master’s degree in Educational Technology, while teaching face-to-face, blended and online courses at the University of Arkansas. I joined Global Campus as an Instructional Designer in 2007 and was promoted to the position of director in 2009. I am originally from Daegu, Korea. I live in Fayetteville with my husband and daughters. I love traveling and spending time with family and friends.
My favorite online teaching tool is...
a caring mind. I do have a list of favorite tools, but it changes every time I meet new faculty or encounter a new course. I always manage to find great tools because I care about the course I’m working on and the students who are taking it. That doesn’t change.
The best part about working with faculty is...
the opportunity to learn various subjects from the experts. Not only do I get to know a little bit about their subjects, but also I learn why they are so passionate about the subjects. It is such a thrilling and rewarding job to help them pass on their knowledge and passion to our students.
If I were not an instructional designer, I would probably...
still be an interpreter. I enjoyed bridging the two worlds by helping people overcome the language barrier. I don’t miss being an interpreter too much, though, because, in a way, I am still doing the same thing. I help our faculty and students overcome barriers that lie between them, either distance or technology.
